A simulation exactly like the real exam for your level — same time limits, same question order, same pass marks. Listening audio plays only once, there is no answer feedback during the test, time-up means auto-submit, and at the end you get an official-style report (PASS / FAIL + reference grades).
Unlocks Mocks 16–25, the Red / Blue / White kanji strategy, the N2 cheat sheet, speed-pattern lessons, a 5-day crash plan, and the listening audio pack. 50% OFF ¥2,400 ¥1,200 (about ₹700) — one-time, no monthly fee. Have a passkey from Deep? You can unlock free on the Pro page.
Even with 90 points in total, scoring under 19 in one section means FAIL. The best pass strategy is simple: don't leave any one section weak.
In the real-format tests, tap ☆ to flag a question and come back later. Touching every question beats running out of time with blanks.
For words and grammar, saying the full example sentence out loud makes it stick twice as well. Every example on this site is there for that.
DeepJLPT covers all five JLPT levels. Each level has its own high-frequency study sets (kanji, vocabulary, grammar, reading, listening), its own Real Exam mode built on that level's real format, time limits and pass marks, and the same 25 practice mocks rebuilt from that level's content. Switch any time with the LEVEL bar under the site name or the cards below — XP and streak carry across levels.
Note: at N5 and N4, Language Knowledge & Reading is worth 120 points and Listening 60 (180 total); the pass mark is 80 at N5 and 90 at N4, with sectional minimums of 38 (Language Knowledge & Reading) and 19 (Listening). At N3, N2 and N1 each section is worth 60 points (180 total) and every section has a minimum of 19 points. Timings and pass marks follow the official JLPT standards.
The pages themselves are in English only — no translations are printed next to the lessons. Every kanji card, vocabulary entry and grammar point shows the English meaning first, every example sentence has an English translation, and whenever you want to check a meaning, just tap the Japanese word: the popup shows its reading and English translation. This guide explains everything else — the exam, the modules, and a study routine — in English only.
First pick your level with the LEVEL bar under the site name (N5–N1), then open Lessons: the level's content is divided into textbook chapters (Minna no Nihongo style), and each lesson teaches its own vocabulary, kanji and grammar, then a conversation and a practice quiz. Or study by skill in the separate Vocabulary Learning, Kanji Learning and Grammar sections (N2 is the biggest: 89 cards, 87 words, 125 points; other levels carry their own curated high-frequency sets). Tap any kanji anywhere on the site to open its dictionary card: readings, English meaning, example and audio.
Do the Reading (6 sets) and Listening (12 sets), then the scroll-style Mock Tests. Mocks 1–15 are free; answers and explanations appear as you go, so you learn while you test.
When you are ready, take the Real JLPT Exam mode for your level: real mondai order, your level's real sittings and time limits, breaks between sittings, Listening played once only — ending in an official-style PASS / FAIL report using your level's real pass marks.
| Section | What is tested | Time | Max | Minimum to pass |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Language Knowledge + Reading | Kanji readings & writing, word formation, words in context, paraphrases, word usage, grammar (form, sentence building, text grammar), then short, medium, combined, long and information-search reading passages — in that exact “mondai” order. | 105 min | 60 + 60 | 19 in each scored section |
| Listening | Task-based, point, overview, expression, quick-response and integrated comprehension. Audio is played once in the real exam. | 50 min | 60 | 19 |
| Total | Scored as Language Knowledge /60, Reading /60, Listening /60. Vocabulary and Grammar also get an A / B / C reference grade on the real score report. | 155 min + break | 180 | 90 overall AND 19+ in every section |
The golden rule: a high total does not save you. Score 120 overall but 18 in Listening and you still fail. Never leave one section weak — that is why DeepJLPT shows your three section scores separately after every full test.
| Level | Sittings & time (real exam) | Scoring | Pass mark (real) |
|---|---|---|---|
| N5 | Language Knowledge (Vocab) 25 min → Grammar & Reading 50 min → Listening 30 min | Language Knowledge & Reading /120, Listening /60 (total 180) | 80 total, LK & Reading ≥ 38, Listening ≥ 19 |
| N4 | Language Knowledge (Vocab) 30 min → Grammar & Reading 60 min → Listening 35 min | Language Knowledge & Reading /120, Listening /60 (total 180) | 90 total, LK & Reading ≥ 38, Listening ≥ 19 |
| N3 | Language Knowledge (Vocab) 30 min → Grammar & Reading 70 min → Listening 40 min | Three sections × /60 (total 180) | 95 total, ≥ 19 in every section |
| N2 | Language Knowledge + Reading 105 min → Listening 50 min | Three sections × /60 (total 180) | 90 total, ≥ 19 in every section |
| N1 | Language Knowledge + Reading 110 min → Listening 55 min | Three sections × /60 (total 180) | 100 total, ≥ 19 in every section |
DeepJLPT's Real Exam mode applies exactly these sittings, timings and pass marks for the level you pick. Every level's study sets are a curated high-frequency selection (the official syllabus lists are not published), sized to be finishable: finish your level's set first, then let the mocks and the Real Exam tell you what to revise.
Tap a card for on’yomi (pink chip) and kun’yomi (teal chip), English meaning, stroke count, a memory hook and a real example word. Always learn the example compound with the kanji — the exam tests kanji inside words, not in isolation. Use the search box in English (“increase”, “decide”) to find kanji by meaning.
Each entry gives the reading, part of speech, English meaning and a full example with translation. Tap 🔊 Word or 🔊 Example to hear it. Say the example out loud — vocabulary learned inside a sentence is what survives in Reading and Listening.
125 patterns grouped into 8 categories (obligation, prohibition, possibility, conjecture, condition, cause, comparison, emphasis and more), each with meaning, usage notes, cautions and examples. Finish a category with its Quick Self-Test: pick the pattern that matches the English meaning.
Read the questions first, then the passage. Use the speed timer to train pace, tap underlined kanji for the dictionary, and check the post-reading vocabulary list afterwards. N2 reading is a speed test as much as a knowledge test.
Press play, listen, answer, then open the transcript — reviewing the script after answering is where listening actually improves. Practice sets allow a second play and speed controls; the Real Exam mode does not.
Mock Tests 1–25 (20 questions, 25 min) teach with instant feedback. The Full Mock adds review screens, locked sections and a 105 + 50 minute structure. The Real JLPT Exam is the strict one: no feedback, no replay, no going back after the break, auto-submit, official-style report.
About 60–90 minutes a day beats a long session once a week. Split it like this:
Following the built-in plan instead? The 30-Day Plan (7 Nov – 6 Dec) does this scheduling for you: new material until Day 23, then a final week of mocks and error review only. If you fall behind, skip to “today” — never try to catch up two days at once.
The Pro Pack sorts all 89 kanji into Red — must know (most frequent, appears inside many compounds), Blue — important and White — if you have time. Short on days? Perfect the red set first. Grammar works the same way: the Cheat Sheet condenses the highest-frequency patterns, timing guidance and sectional-pass rules onto one revision screen, and the Speed Patterns lessons drill “signal word → meaning” so grammar questions take ~30 seconds, not two minutes.
Short on time entirely? The Pro 5-Day Crash Plan is: Day 1 full Real Exam to find your weak section, Day 2 language knowledge, Day 3 reading + listening, Day 4 second rehearsal, Day 5 cheat-sheet and red kanji only — no new material.

Tap any Japanese word — in a lesson, an example, a reading passage or a test question — and a popup shows its reading and English translation. Meanings are not printed on the pages themselves, so the pages stay clean in English.
Mocks teach — instant right/wrong feedback and explanations. The Full Mock rehearses the real structure with review screens and locked sections. The Real Exam is strict and silent until the end: no feedback, listening played once, no returning to Part 1 after the break, and an official-style score report with PASS / FAIL.
Because of the sectional rule: you also need at least 19/60 in Language Knowledge, Reading and Listening individually. Your report highlights the section below 19 — that section is your next week’s priority.
Listening and pronunciation use your device’s Japanese text-to-speech voice. If nothing plays, check volume and silent mode. In practice you may replay (up to twice); in Real Exam mode each track plays exactly once, like the real test.
All five: N5, N4, N3, N2 and N1. Use the LEVEL bar under the site name (or the Levels page). Every module, the 25 mocks, the Full Mock and the strict Real Exam then use that level's content, that level's real exam format and timings, and that level's real pass marks — N5 and N4 combine Language Knowledge + Reading into one /120 section (minimum 38) with Listening /60 (minimum 19); N3, N2 and N1 score three sections out of 180 with 19+ needed in every section. Your XP, streak and notebook carry across levels; the dated 30-Day Plan is the N2 sprint plan, and other levels get a week-by-week roadmap on the Plan page.
Pick your level first (N5 if Japanese is new to you). Take one Mock Test to see the question styles, then follow this guide’s daily routine with your level's sets. Keep the Real Exam for after your first full mock — it is a rehearsal, not a lesson. Aiming at N2 for 6 December? The 30-Day Plan schedules the final month for you.
A day-by-day plan from 7 November to exam day, Sunday 6 December — every day for 30 days has its tasks set. Today's card is highlighted. Use the button on each day to jump straight to that day's module. New material stops after Day 23; the final week is mocks and error review only. Behind schedule? Skip to today and continue — never double up days.
Study like a textbook: one chapter (課) at a time, in order. Every lesson brings its own Vocabulary (ことば), its own Kanji (漢字), its own Grammar (文法), example sentences & conversation, and a short practice quiz — all built from this level's own words, kanji and patterns. Finish Lesson 1, then move to Lesson 2. Prefer to study by skill instead? Vocabulary Learning and Kanji Learning stay as separate full sections in the menu above.
How a lesson works: ① Learn the lesson's words → ② Learn the lesson's kanji → ③ Learn the grammar patterns → ④ Read the example sentences & conversation aloud → ⑤ Take the lesson practice quiz. Tap any Japanese word anywhere for its reading + English meaning.Standalone section — all kanji in one deck, separate from the Lessons. The same kanji also appear chapter by chapter inside

EN: Every word shows its reading, part of speech and English meaning, plus an example sentence with translation. Use 🔊 to hear the word or the full example, and read examples aloud — words learned in a sentence are the ones you will recognise in the exam. This level's grammar points, with English meanings and examples. Kanji in the examples show their hiragana reading above them — tap any word to see its meaning.
EN: The selected level's grammar patterns, grouped into categories, each with an English meaning, usage notes, common-mistake warnings and examples. At the end of each category, take the Quick Self-Test — choose the pattern that matches the English meaning.Read each passage and answer the questions — press “Check Answers” to see your result on the spot. Kanji in the text show their hiragana reading above them; tap any word for its meaning. You can also hear the passage and questions read aloud with the 🔊 button or by tapping the question.
Tip: Read the questions before the passage, use the timer to build speed, then press “Check Answers”. After each set, review the post-reading vocabulary list and tap any kanji you did not know.Press play to hear the audio (Japanese text-to-speech). In the real exam each track plays only once, so listen with full focus. After answering, you can read the script — and re-reading what you misheard is where listening improves most.
Each test: 20 questions, 25 minutes, in a scroll format: Part 1 Vocabulary → Part 2 Grammar & Reading → Part 3 Listening, with every question of a part stacked on one page — just scroll to the next question. The fixed bar at the bottom shows all question numbers; answered ones change colour, and tapping one scrolls you to that question. Tap a question or press 🔊 to hear it read aloud (except Listening). Answers are marked instantly with explanations (practice mode), and the question mix changes every attempt. For the strict real-exam flow — review screens, locked submissions, max 2 plays — use the Full Mock Exam.
A full mock with the same timing and part structure as the real exam at your chosen level, in a scroll format: every question of a part is stacked on one page — just scroll to the next question. The fixed bar at the bottom shows all question numbers; answered ones change colour, tapping one scrolls you to that question, and you can flag questions with ☆. Tap a question or press 🔊 to hear it read aloud (except Listening). At the end of each part a review screen lets you check for unanswered questions before you submit — after submitting, that part is locked forever. Listening tracks play up to 2 times per question, and scripts open only on the results screen. The timer runs per sitting (the real exam's sections). The question count is condensed for practice, but scoring and pass lines are exactly the real exam's for your level.
Note: timing and pass standards match the real JLPT at your selected level. Submitting a part from its review screen locks it in — you can move on early, but you can never go back.
This is not a practice mock. This is the real exam itself, for your chosen level: every question in the real mondai order, strict time limits, and no right/wrong feedback at any point. The moment you finish, you get an official-style score report (section scores, total, PASS / FAIL, reference grades), followed by a full review of every question.
Read before you start: This is the strict simulation for the level you selected, with that level's real sittings, time limits and pass marks. Every part runs in real mondai order; submit a part and you can never return to it. Listening plays each track once only — no replay, pause, transcript or feedback. Time out means auto-submit. Your official-style report follows: section scores, total, PASS / FAIL by your level's real rules, reference grades where the real exam gives them, then a full wrong-answer review. Use headphones, and do not close the page mid-exam.Total time: about 155 minutes (105 min + break + 50 min). Closing the page during the exam discards it. Find a quiet place and have your headphones ready.
